Our Wolves MR2 (managed by Jahleel B.) were on a BYE week.

They will be back on the pitch next week!

MR2 HOMA

On the Path to a Mid-Season Championship!

By: Omid M., Team Manager
Game played: Monday, July 7th, 2025

In our Week 7 of the O.C.S.L.’s MR2 schedule, which was held under rainy weather, the teams Wolves-Homa and O.S.U. faced off.

Team O.S.U., with a relatively young squad, started the match with high attacking pressure and eventually scored a beautiful goal from a set piece. Despite showing early vulnerability, as seen in their recent matches, our Wolves-Homa gradually gained control of this game. Both teams created several chances in the first half, but the score remained 1-0 in favor of O.S.U. heading into halftime.

In the second half, Wolves-Homa — fighting for the mid-season championship and determined not to drop points at home — came out firing. They launched repeated attacks from the wings and completely took control of the game. While it initially seemed that our players were struggling to finish, it was finally a brilliant diagonal cross from Omid B. that found Mohammad D. who broke the deadlock with a diving header. Our Wolves-Homa’s pressure continued, and they added two more goals through Imad A. A. and Mohammad D., sealing a 3-1 victory.

At the end of the match, Omid Balazade — who had a strong performance in defense and delivered several impactful runs and crosses from the flanks — was named our ‘Player of the Game‘!

Our Wolves Swarm and Conquer!

By: Antonino Z., Team Manager
Game played: Wednesday, July 9th, 2025

The last men standing and celebrating our win tonight were Chris M. and Tony Z. and we literally gave blood to all the mosquitoes who were feasting on the back of our necks!!!  It’s tough to fully enjoy the post-game celebrations when the mosquitoes are coming at you like it’s their last meal of the night. It was a bit of a ‘we won, but let’s get the heck out of here‘ vibe once the mosquitoes started to swarm and feast.

This game had a weird vibe. It felt, to me, that every ball was a hard-fought battle to win. The possession and momentum shifted regularly. There was no real flow. Sometimes we just have to adjust to the chaos, rather than trying to impose our own rhythm.

And I love how we modified our play as the game got more physical. I’m not an advocate for playing that style of soccer. Facing those reckless challenges took some serious grit, especially when it’s not the style of play we prefer, but it showed our mental toughness to get through this game with the victory, despite the mounting injuries. Our integrity of playing the game the proper way, was still intact! Let’s hope the injuries aren’t long-term.

Our strikers Carlo Z. and Anthony C. definitely earned some praise! When the game was tight, tied at 1-1, and the defending became tougher, Anthony and Carlo’s clinical finishing and scoring the extra goals, mattered the most. Their performance made a big difference—especially when the game became more physical and chaotic.  Well done you two!

Our sincere gratitude to our Wolves MR2’s Jahleel B.  for sparing with us once again. He provided us with a very solid mid-field presence.

When we face adversity, our Wolves don’t ‘step aside‘, they ‘step up‘. Honourable mention goes to Stefano G. who was the ultimate ‘holder’ in this game.  He was owning the wing with his calm control.  Our Samuel W., Ian A., and Kevin P. were getting noticed. It’s one thing to be effective, but it’s another when you’re not just doing your job but also making sure your efforts are felt on the pitch, whether it’s through vocal leadership or just the way they were reading the game. Props to center backs, Angel F. and Michael M., who played the entire game and with a lineup that’s already been stretched thin, this was no easy feat. It takes a lot of endurance, both physically and mentally, to stay locked in for that long, especially with the intensity of this game and the injuries piling up. Thank you very much, guys!

The Gartner’s sending us ‘good karma’ from Peru before our match!

If a tireless machine was named ‘Joseph‘, he’d be your ‘Player of the Game‘ every week. He was a beast out there. Being that we were a little light on defenders, Joseph stepped up and filled in admirably.

Efforts not Rewarded!

By: Q. V., Team Manager
Game played: Tuesday, July 8th, 2025

Our match against the Falcons was one of grit and determination, but ultimately, it was not our day. The game started on a high note, with Albania taking the lead and playing some excellent football. We doubled our efforts, and for a while, it seemed like we would cruise to victory. However, the Falcons showed great resilience, tying the game, only for us to take the lead again. But, in a heartbreaking turn of events, they tied once more and scored another goal to seal the win.

Despite the loss, we are still at the top of the table. Determined to challenge for the title, the boys are already regrouping and looking forward to next match. Let’s keep moving forward.

Wolves Extend Win Streak to Three!

By: Gabe F., Team Manager
Game played: Tuesday, July 8th, 2025

Our Westboro Wolves MR4 kept their winning momentum rolling, battling to a tough victory against Carleton Place FC! This win extends our impressive streak to three consecutive games!

It was a hard-fought match, but our Wolves showed their determination. The goals that secured the win came from our prolific striker, Roland E., who notched his 6th goal of the season with a crucial finish. Adding to the score sheet, Gabe F. netted his first goal of the season, a fantastic moment that proved to be a winner!

While our attackers found the back of the net, the real hero of the day was Alexander B. R.. Carleton Place mounted some fierce late attacks, but Alexander’s defensive plays were instrumental in keeping us in the game. His efforts to shut down their pushes were critical, and he truly earned his ‘Player of the Game‘ honours for the week.

We’re thrilled to keep this winning run going. The team’s resilience and teamwork are shining through, and we’re excited to see what next week brings!

Third Consecutive Win: Wolves-Homa on Track for Top Spot!

By: Omid M., Team Manager
Game played: Tuesday, July 8th, 2025

In Week 7 of the OCSL League, our Wolves-Homa FC delivered a brilliant performance, defeating their opponent with a decisive 8–1 victory. With this high-scoring win, they moved closer to the top of the table. This marks our Wolves-Homa’s third consecutive victory, confirming the team’s upward trajectory.

In the first half, Wolves-Homa completely dominated the field, scoring several beautiful goals through their strikers. Hamidreza S. and Mohsen H.-N. dismantled the opposing defense with technical moves and precise shots, each scoring spectacular goals. Amirhossein A. also shined in this match, contributing significantly with an impressive hat trick.

The second half began with a flurry of goals from Homa. Within the first ten minutes, they netted four goals, securing their lead. Later, Kasra D. made an excellent save on a penalty kick, preventing the goal difference from narrowing.

This high-margin victory not only boosted the team’s morale but also established Wolves-Homa as a serious contender for the championship this season.

At the end of the match, Hamidreza Sadr was named ‘Player of the Game‘.

OT5

You Can’t Beat Family Support!

By: Salvador H. C., Team Assistant Manager
Game played: Friday, July 11th, 2025

On Friday, July 11, our OT5 Westboro Wolves faced the Carleton Place Rangers on their home field. This was the start of the second round of our season (we have 2 pending games postponed by the league due to weather conditions). For us, this was a challenge as our previous game against C.P. proved to be a harsh start of our 2025 campaign.

Unlike previous matches, we started this game more focused, passing the ball around, and keeping possession. As we get a better understanding of our formation, we are defending better and working to block open spaces for the opposing midfielders and forwards. In our midfield, Luca, Mahdi, Bujar, Jamie, and Q. controlled the game, creating plays so that Ada and Helio could attack. Despite having some great shots on goal, the first half ended 0-0.

In the second half, Carleton Place increased their pressure, but our center mids, Jeff and Justin, kept the trouble at bay. In the back, Kevin, Kyle, Vincent, Yiber, Samir and Salvador worked together to protect our keeper, Bryan. Towards the 20th minute of the second half, Bujar got fouled inside the box. Salvador took the penalty shot, making it 1-0 for our Wolves.

With almost 25 minutes left in the game, Carleton Place pushed their squad up, giving us ample room for fastbreaks. Despite good chances, the ball just wouldn’t go in. Q. had (at least) 3 shots that hit the crossbar. The game ended 1-0, with the Wolves earned a hard-fought victory played in very humid weather. Our keeper, Bryan, finally got his first clean sheet of the season.

For the past 4 games, my dad attended our games during his visit to Canada. I would like to thank all the squad and our Wolves family for making him feel welcome and a part of the team. He is back in Peru now, still cheering us on.

Salvador, Sr. seen here with our Wolves Bujar H.

Our Jeff V. brought his family and his pet to watch our game. We all spent a lot of time cuddling his dog. Sorry Jeff, but you might have to bring him to all our remaining games. He brought us good luck.

Our next match will be against the Ottawa Hellenic at their home field. Forza Wolves!

This was a team effort, the whole team were the ‘Players of the Game‘!

OT6

A Tense Affair!

By: Mark B., Team Player
Game played: Friday, July 11th, 2025

It was a hot and humid evening, but that did not stop our OT6 Wolves’ opponents from Korea from warming up 1 hour before their match.  The Wolves were treated to an appearance from Club President, Tony Z., who provided in-game inspiration and post-game entertainment.  As the match kicked off, the heat and humidity fed into the testiness of this rematch from week 1, which our Wolves had taken 2-0.

The midfield battles were tense, the referee was overly animated and before long the sides had traded yellow cards.  Despite some good early chances, it was the Korean Ottos who break the deadlock, first with a looping shot that stand in keeper Noah B. could only whiff at.

Our Wolves regrouped at half-time and came out with intensity and purpose.  Their commitment to tackles began to wear down their opponents, as every Wolves’ tackle seemed to emit a cry of harm. ‘Player of the Game‘ Nico V. continued to barrel down the flank from his wing-back position, creating space and trying to unlock the defense.  It was a set piece which got the Wolves on the board as newbies Mark B. and Eamon K. hooked up on a corner header beauty.  The Wolves continued to drive forward with countless through balls onto the paths of willing strikers, Liam S., Jay L. and Peter S.. However, their headband-wearing, speedy sweeper who had an affinity to faking injuries, kept mopping up the loose balls.  At the other end, substitute keeper Blake P. kept the Wolves hopes alive with a couple of late-game, stunning diving saves.  The match ended with controversy after a crunching tackle from our captain Tim R. led to a final rush, which ended with Peter S. being whistled for off-side.

The final tackle was not well received. In the face of this adversity, the Wolves stood their ground but kept their cool.  It was a spicy evening, and one that our Wolves felt they deserved a better result.

Thank you to our Wolves Russ A., owner of Boston Pizza-Barrhaven for the well-appreciated cooler full of frosty refreshments that we chased down with a BBQed sausage!

Our ‘Player of the Game‘ was Nico. His defending was spot-on; his distribution of the ball was pin-perfect!

The Sunshine after the Rain!

By: Domenico P., Team Keeper
Game played: Sunday, July 13th, 2025

The match between our Westboro Wolves MOT4 and FC Gatineau was scheduled on Sunday evening giving both sides a few extra days to stretch and recover from the previous week.  However, there was the possibility of the match being cancelled due to either heat or severe thundershowers that occurred a couple of hours earlier.

Before the match started, Moe F. coming off the previous week’s ‘Player of the Game‘ honours reached out to the team asking if there would be a game.  Obviously many were surprised that Moe would be concerned about the heat, after all, this man thrives under the pressure and the heat of playing every week for the Wolves to lead his team to victory, but rather, upon asking why he had asked about the cancellation, he was rather worried for our favourite Scotsman, Mark F. who has never played in hot weather as it is never sunny in Scotland and given his pasty white skin would burn like two sunny-side up eggs!

The match would see of our three spares join the line-up for the first time this season as holidays started to dwindle our team numbers.  Special thank you to:  Rocky C., Bill M., and Neil H..

With the line-ups called out, everyone had a role to play to ensure that a win would keep the Wolves atop of the division and continue to drive momentum for future matches.

With the blow of the whistle the match was underway.  Perhaps it was the weather or the jitters, but the start of the match saw too many wild attempted passes and disorganization in terms of player movement which lead to frustration by all.  While our Wolves’ goalkeeper attempted to keep his side focused (along with his own sanity as it is rather lonely at times) and playing the quality of football that they have been accustomed to playing, it wasn’t until the 15th minute when our defender, Gerry V., engaged in a foot race to the far corner or the Wolves’ left corner to clear the ball out and then tumble and roll and take the corner flag with him only to get up and see himself wearing the flag like Guns ‘n Roses’ Axel Rose’s bandana!

With Gerry inspiring his side to pick-up the pace, it immediately led to a goal with Wolves Captain Charles V. scoring a beautiful header (it would later be followed by two more goals) proving to everyone that he can use his head to score goals and not only write-up government policy!  Charles’ goal was soon followed by another one of his goals giving our Wolves a 3-0 lead heading into half time.

At half time, our Wolves’ keeper made it clear to his side that despite the score line, they were not playing well and that they needed to be more aware of their positioning off the ball as much as when they have the ball at their feet.  It was not a message that was well received by a few, in particular by Neil, who had been away from the game for some time, decided that it was best to run his mouth rather than his feet in the first half, however, being told that the writer holds the pen and if he doesn’t pick-it-up, the writing would not be kind.  Neil would deliver a solid second half by actually running and in turn assisting on a goal and scoring one himself late in the game with a well-placed header by Rocky C. who quickly placed the ball and looped it in for Neil (a big thanks to Moe for letting Rocky take the freekick).

Notable highlights during the match was witnessing John M. put in some very strong shifts and then subbing off to see if Paul T. could keep up with the pace and quality of play.  Paul did not disappoint.  It was obvious that John was inspiring Paul ( kind of like in the Beatles) as they would make some great runs down the pitch to create scoring opportunities for themselves and their teammates.  When not clearing the ball in the middle of the pitch, we could see Roberto S. expressing his appreciation to Mimmo M. with every great play.  Bill M., Ted P., and Marco B. were solid central midfielders, and we witnessed Marco place a solid shot into the right-hand corner of the net (and this from a player that doesn’t play well in the heat!). With Frank M. hoping for pasta after the match, he was running extra hard to earn himself an extra plate …unfortunately, Mimmo only brought out paninis, but that didn’t stop Frank from holding back his appetite. Lastly, we learned that Kevin W.’s key to playing like a 25-year-old is post-match recovery with ice packs on his feet, groins, and knees.

It was a well-earned victory that keeps the Wolves atop of the division, but more importantly with an improved play in the second half of the match, momentum heading into Friday’s match against the OSU Old Crocs.

The ‘Player of the Game‘ went to a well-deserved teammate who not only netted a few goals, but whose leadership on and off the pitch continue to have a positive impact on this team – congratulations Charles on this award!
