We have RISEN!
To every one of our team managers, we say THANK YOU!
On our journey together, our management’s many hours of volunteering is very much appreciated. As we embark on this new season, we want to take a moment to emphasize the importance of our shared vision and the path ahead. As a Club, we are hoping that we can ensure that this is the best experience for ALL our players.
We are growing and are now fielding 9 teams for the upcoming season. Two teams in the Ottawa-Carleton Soccer League’s (OCSL) Men’s Rec 2 division, one in MR3, three in MR4, one in Old-Timers div. 5, one in OT6, and one team in Masters OT4.
As we step onto this expanded stage, let’s remember that our dedication to fair play is what got us here. Our focus should be to preach respect towards everyone on the pitch. Our teammates, opposing players, and especially the referees.
Together, let’s RISE to the occasion and make this season memorable and more importantly, enjoyable.
Our playing field is a clean slate.

Please note: Our MR2 teams did not play their games this week due to the holiday Monday.

Our first match of the 2025 season is in the books!
By: Tony Zito, Team Manager
Game played: May 21, 2025

We began our game day with a little ‘poetic motivation‘ courtesy of our own Carlo Zito. We arrived at the pitch saying all the right things and we backed it up by starting on the front foot with a few good looks on our opponent’s goal. But isn’t it always the case that the other team gets one opportunity and puts it away and we were chasing this game. Our shoulders were slightly slumped, but new Papi Dylan Tessier kept repeating that we were going to win. The other team had size, and they moved the ball well. Their play though, was predictable, long ball, flick, and chase. At first, we found ourselves on the wrong side of our goal, but we made the necessary adjustments. The pitch’s lush grass surface came into play on many of our clearances, but we adapted and improved as the game went on.
This was a fantastic way to kick off our summer season. We extend our congratulations to Gobi Kumarakuladervan , Angel Farias, and Anthony Casimiro, who all made their Wolves debuts and special mention to Kevin Ridgway whose persistence in the box, led to a well-earned foul and the awarded penalty. Our confidence only grew after that strike.
Despite the unseasonably chilly weather feeling more like late Fall, our team showed incredible determination and teamwork in securing a hard-fought victory.
It was a great start to our season, we came to play, and we were rewarded.

Strenght in Numbers!

Anthony’s impressive 2-goal performance earned him our ‘Player of the Game’ honours!

Strong Season Opener with a Dominant Win Over Wolves Homa!
By: Gabe Forsyth, Team Manager
Game played: May 20, 2025

The 2025 soccer season kicked off with a bang for the Westboro Wolves, as we secured an impressive 6-2 victory over our fellow club team, Westboro Wolves Homa, in the season opener.
The highly anticipated match took place on our home pitch at Pinecrest Park.
The first half saw a tight contest, with our team heading into halftime with a slender 1-0 lead. However, we found another gear in the second half, exploding for five more goals to take a commanding 5-2 lead before ultimately closing out the game with a 6-2 final.
Our offense was on fire, with Roland El-Khoury leading the charge, bagging an impressive hat-trick! Not to be outdone, Tapiwa Mukova, Gino Funai, and Nana Boadu each contributed a goal, showcasing our team’s diverse attacking power.
While the goal scorers will grab the headlines, our solid performance wouldn’t have been possible without the heroics of our goalkeeper, Matthew Hajjar. His critical saves early in the game were instrumental in helping keep us in control of this match.
What a way to start the season! Our team’s cohesion and determination were evident throughout the match, and this opening win is a fantastic foundation for what promises to be an exciting season!

Our ‘Player of the Game ‘ was Roland El-Khoury for his 3-goal performance. Roland, you got ‘mugged’!

Wolves Albania Sizzle in the Cold with a Victory in Season Opener!
By: Q. Vuniqi, Team Manager
Game played: May 20, 2025

Despite the chilly temperatures, the Wolves brought the heat in their season opener, securing a thrilling 6-4 win. They struck early, with Toli unleashing a well-placed shot from outside the box that flew into the net, handing the Wolves an early lead. The team’s high-pressing game paid off, as they won the ball back quickly and created countless scoring opportunities.
Leorent P. was the star of the show, scoring a hat-trick with his trademark precision and finishing ability. His clinical strikes left the opposing goalkeeper with little chance, and his celebration with the team was a testament to the squad’s camaraderie. Meanwhile, Billy marshaled the defense with authority, plugging holes and making crucial tackles to prevent the opposition from getting back into the game. The team’s passing game was on point, with crisp, one-touch football that sliced through the opposition’s midfield.
Basnik, the Wolves’ goalkeeper, pulled off some spectacular saves, denying the opposition on multiple occasions and keeping his team’s lead intact. His reflexes and shot-stopping ability were on full display, and he was a key factor in the team’s victory. When it came to nominating our ‘Player of the Game’, it was a tough decision, but Billy’s defensive heroics made him the unanimous choice among his teammates. His tireless work rate and defensive solidity earned him the nod, and he was ecstatic about the team’s win.

WOLVES-ALBANIA MR4 ‘Player of the Game‘, Byl Jakupi.
The Wolves’ attacking trio was in sync, moving the ball with precision and creating scoring chances through their intricate interplay. The team’s set pieces also proved effective, as they capitalized on corners and free kicks to add to their tally. In the end, the Wolves’ attacking flair and defensive resilience paid off, earning them a hard-fought 6-4 victory and a confident start to the season.
Next up, we face Wolves Homa from our club – a thrilling derby that’s for sure to be a nail-biter!

Humbling Start But Determined to Do Better!
By: Salvador Herencia Carrasco, Team Defender
Game played: May 23, 2025

As champions of last yearâs OT6 division, the Westboro Wolves moved up one division. The team lost valuable players as they moved to our Masterâs team but recruited new players and they have adapted well to our club.
Our first game was against the Carleton Rangers OT5. Unfortunately, our debut was not the best. Our defensive line had a lot of missing players, and we had to move many mid-fielders to play defense. We had good scoring opportunities, but it just was not our night, while the opposing team did make the most of the chances they had throughout the game. Congratulations to the Carleton Rangers for a much-deserved win. We look forward to playing against you later in the season.
It was a hard and humbling debut for our team in the OT5 division. We are confident that for the next match, we will do better.

Wolves Brace Leads to Victory!
By: Adam Black, Team Player

The Boyz of Wolves OT6 opened their 2025 season at home under the lights at Richmond Lions Park. Two goals were all they needed to shut out the Ottawa Korean Ottos. These goals came off the foot of our new off-season, free agency acquisitions, as both Kevin ‘the Iceman’ Beyer and Mark ‘the Big Whopper’ Burger pounded home the goals. No idea what OT6 team management is paying them, but so far itâs worth it.
And in nets, staying true to his season-ending form from last season, and securing the shutout, was Francis âthe wallâ Breault! Well done lads!

Westboro Wolves HOMA is Making Headlines!

Our WOLVES-HOMA MR4 and WOLVES MR4 Teams.
Editor’s Note: This is the first time in almost 20 years that two Wolves teams have faced each other in Ottawa-Carleton Soccer League (OCSL) play. It was a proud moment for our Club!
The 2025 OCSL season has officially kicked off and our Westboro Wolves HOMA MR2, despite having a bye week due to the Victoria Day holiday, kept their form sharp with a commanding 6â2 victory in a friendly match against the Ottawa Eaglesâshowing signs of strong preparation for the competitive season ahead.
Meanwhile, Westboro Wolves HOMA MR4 had a challenging start in their official opener against Westboro Wolves MR4. In a match played at Pinecrest Park under tough field conditions, they suffered a heavy 6â2 defeat. The game opened fast, with Wolves MR4 striking early in the fifth minute. Despite HOMAâs multiple attacking chances, the first half ended 1â0 to Westboro Wolves MR4.
The second half brought renewed energy, and in the 70th minute, Wolves HOMA’s Heddar Badro delivered a superb corner from the left sideâmet with a powerful header from Mohammad Dehghan to get us on the board, inching us closer, the score now at 3â1. But Wolves MR4 quickly responded, exploiting HOMAâs defensive vulnerabilities through counterattacks.
Now, all eyes turn to our next game, as Westboro Wolves HOMA MR4 looks to bounce back and prove their resilience on the road to redemption!

Our WOLVES-HOMA MR4 ‘Player of the Game‘ was Hedda Badro (seen here being interviewed by team manager, Roozbeh Manesh.

MOT4
Great SCOT and Then Some!
By: Domenico Pecora, Team Keeper
Game played: May 23, 2025

It was a cold, wet, and windy start to the 2025 MOT4 season, it felt like a typical Scottish Spring, but instead, it was here in Ottawa. However, despite the weather, it did not dampen the enthusiasm of the group as they attempted once again to relive their youth through the ‘beautiful game‘. It was also the debut of 5 new players who’ve migrated from other Wolves’ teams to ours. Their impact was immediately felt. Welcome aboard John Maggiore, Ted Pilon, Dino DeFranco, Jason Oehling, and Marco Bernabo.
The match was particularly special as two days earlier, the teamâs toughest fullback, Tom Prowse, celebrated his beloved Tottenham Hotspursâ first major trophy in over 50 years, and seeing the Nepean Hotspurs dressed in red while the Wolves were in white was reliving that match personally, and an impact he had with not only some solid defending but started the third goal of the game with a well-executed pass to the leagueâs favourite Scot, Mark Freel, and to only be sealed with what can be described as the goal of the game by Wolvesâ Team Manager, Charles Vincent. A goal that left everyone gasping!
While it was an emotional week for Tom, it was even more so, for the Teamâs Manager, Charles Vincent who, a week earlier, watched his beloved Everton play their last match at Goodison Park. He was supporting his club by donning the number 12 jersey which is reserved for the Supporters, but on Friday, he was wearing it for all Toffee Supporters, and it paid off with plenty of running and a goal that may be up for
goal of the season. Following the match, Charles will go back to wearing his usual jersey number 69 and leave the number 12 for the Wolves Supporters!
The Hotspurs started strong and even claimed the first shot of the game, but it was caught with confidence by the Wolvesâ phenomenal goalkeeper, and it was to be the last shot he would face. A special thank you goes to our defender Gerry Valente who would from time-to-time check in on the goalkeeper to see if he wanted an espresso or a magazine as it was a relatively quiet and lonely evening, pretty much like the Maytag Repairmanâs life!
Our team’s early enthusiasm was noted by the erratic passing, either too short or too long, all in the hopes of moving the ball forward and into the net. Once the nerves were in control, passing and ball movement improved. The defensive unit comprised of 8 defenders (and there were plenty of quick changes) were disciplined and it showed as they moved the ball onto the feet of the midfieldera rather than going down the wet pitch, and in turn created scoring opportunities for both the midfielders and strikers. The hard work would only pay off early in the second half as the Hotspurs held the Wolves to a scoreless draw in the first 45 minutes. Following an emotional pep-talk by Tony Zito, the team gathered their composure, and the last 45 minutes would see the Wolves net 4 goals.
It was during this match that our goalkeeper, yours truly, learned how to distinguish between Andrew Specogna and Matthew Crosier. The former has feet with precise crosses and passes, while Matthew is blessed with speed and a huge heart! Following the match, the first âPlayer of the Gameâ (POG) award went to Mark Freel for a solid offensive and defensive performance. The POG award makes him the leading Scot to earn this award, on the same day as his compatriot, Scott McTominay won the Serie A MVP award and became the highest-scoring Scottish Footballer in Serie A history! Congratulations MOT4 Wolves on the impressive win!
BONUS Commentary:
By: Charles Vincent, Team Manager

It was great to see everyone out for the first game of our new season. Despite the less-than-ideal weather, we got to play on our new home field at Ben Franklin Park. A relatively large field, this served us well as our ‘youthful’ legs found plenty of space to roam. Admittedly, it did take us a while to find those legs, with more running than finish through the first half, but there was always a feeling that our possession would eventually lead to a breakthrough. In fact, one might argue it did when striker Jefferson Daugherty’s header found the net only to be chalked off for a phantom foul on the keeper. Nevertheless, we went into the half in a scoreless draw with much work still left to do.
The second half saw our offense come to life. First, Mark Freel lashed a lovely strike into the bottom left to open the scoring. From there Alonso Gartner converted a smash’n’grab counterattack, latching onto a through ball from Jefferson, who made him run 1,000 miles to get to it, the speed of the counter was not to be denied and Alonso cooly finished past the onrushing keeper. With that back-breaking goal, the keeper saw the third goal, scored by your truly, nestle into the top right corner. Mark then finished the scoring with his second of the night to further secure our victory.
All this was no more than our defense and keeper deserved. We were solid all night at the back with the Hotspurs rarely getting a sniff of goal and when they did our keeper Domenico Pecora snuffed out any glimmer of hope, securing his first shut-out of the year. Mark was a deserving recipient of the first ‘Player of Game‘ honours but special mention to our aforementioned ârookiesâ Ted (solid beverage selection), Marco, and Dino. It was great to welcome back Jason and John. It certainly promises to be a wonderful year!

You’ve been ‘MUGGED’! Our MOT4 ‘Player of the Game‘, Mark Freel, who scored a brace on opening night!
