First Loss of the Season!

By: Omid M., Team Manager
Game played: Monday, July 28, 2025

In Week 10 of the OCSL’s MR2 League play, our Wolves-Homa faced Ottawa Hellenic as the away side.

Aware of our opponent’s youthful energy and aggressive style, our team entered the game with a formation change, aiming to maintain possession in midfield and control the tempo in the early minutes, hoping to secure a favorable result later on. However, in a surprising turn of events, Wolves-Homa conceded three goals within the first ten minutes. This put our team under significant psychological pressure, which visibly affected the players’ performance. Midway through the first half, Hellenic’s #11 and star player scored his fourth goal, extending their lead. Despite the setbacks, our Wolves-Homa were awarded a penalty in the final minute of the first half and managed to score their first goal. The teams went into the break with a score of 4-1.

At the start of the second half, Wolves-Homa—still hopeful for a comeback—was hit with another blow as they conceded a fifth goal. We also lost our central defender and captain, Hossein Dotaghi, due to injury. Nevertheless, our players didn’t give up, even though the team lacked its usual organization and strength.

Around the 60th minute, a Hellenic player was shown a second yellow card for a dangerous tackle and was subsequently sent off. Moments later, another Hellenic teammate followed, receiving a second yellow for foul language. From the outset, Hellenic had exhibited unsportsmanlike behavior, and they now found themselves reduced to nine men. Presented with a golden opportunity to shift the momentum, our Wolves-Homa managed to narrow the deficit. However, we struggled to fully regain our rhythm and ultimately suffered our first loss of the season.

Good luck to our Wolves-Homa MR2 in their Ottawa Cup Quarter-final match.

Despite the loss, Mohammad Gharaei—who had delivered a strong performance on defense—was named our ‘Player of the Game‘.

Breaking the Yolk and Back on Top!

By: Antonino Z., Team Manager
Game played: July 30, 2025

Now that’s more like it! What an incredible effort by everyone in this match. Our focus, desire to compete, and execution were on point from start to finish.

From our defending, our build up, to our ball movement — we were fluid and composed, forcing them to chase the game until we finally netted that elusive (and well-deserved) goal scored with authority by our striker, Anthony C., on a well-placed cross by Kevin P.. Despite a string of questionable calls that threatened our rhythm, we kept pressing — and when we finally broke the yolk, on a goal by division leader, Anthony C., the relief was palpable. (As Dylan T. hilariously noted, no one celebrates more enthusiastically than I do!)

Anthony and Carlo, are TOP 3, well done boyz!

Another clean sheet for our keeper, Anthony W. — capped off with that clutch, full-extension save late in the match. Absolute highlight-reel stuff — and worth the front-row seat alone!

Thank you to Jameson B., Diego, and Alonso G. for their ‘treasure chests’ of quality post-game beverages. To James G., for suiting up and giving it his all — despite having another game after this one. That kind of commitment doesn’t go unnoticed.

Top of the table!

Kevin P. – Our catalyst on the flank, was ‘Player of the Game‘ for his relentless effort and tenacity.
Honourable mention to Kevin R., who rediscovered the grit and passion that had been eluding him of late.

Wolves Albania Soars Over Falcons!

By: Q. V., Team Manager
Game played: Tuesday, July 29th, 2025

We may have been short on players due to summer vacations, but that didn’t stop us from dominating the pitch against Falcons this week. Despite being depleted, we got off to a flying start, netting 5 goals in the first half. Our striker, Leorent was unstoppable, scoring a hat-trick, while Erni added 2 more to his tally. Their impressive performance earned them player of the game honours.

The second half proved to be more challenging, as fatigue began to set in and we had no subs to call upon. However, our defense held strong, allowing Falcons to score only one goal. It was a testament to our team’s resilience and determination.

We’d like to extend a special thank you to Salvador H.C. and Justin M. from OT5 for volunteering to help us out in this match. Their support was invaluable, and we appreciate their willingness to lend a hand. Overall, it was a great team effort, and we’re proud of the way we performed despite being short-staffed.

Leo is running away with the goal scoring lead in MR4 that includes four other Wolves players! Amazing!

Wolves Dominate Hornets!

By: Gabe F., Team Manager
Game played: Tuesday, July 29th, 2025

Our MR4 Westboro Wolves delivered a fantastic performance against the Gloucester Hornets, securing a decisive 4-1 victory in a match where our dominance truly shined.

We started the game on the front foot, with great ball movement and quick passing that constantly unlocked the opponent’s defense from both flanks. Our pressure paid off when Mahad Mohamed put us in the lead with a quick brace, scoring one with a powerful header and another with his foot! Despite our strong play, we momentarily lost focus near the end of the first half, allowing the Hornets to claw one back.

However, the second half was all Wolves. We completely outplayed them, maintaining control and creating numerous chances. Our dominance led to two more goals, with Gino Funai and last week’s POG, Matt Hum both finding the back of the net to seal the victory.

It was a brilliant team effort that demonstrated our ability to bounce back and close out a game with authority.

Steady Progress!

Game played: Tuesday, July 29th, 2025

Our Wolves-Homa MR4 were in tough against a formidable opponent in the Ottawa Falcons Bad News Bears. Two determined teams going head-to-head who sit third and fourth place in the division standings.

In a clash defined more by grit than goals, our Wolves-Homa MR4 locked horns with the Ottawa Falcons Bad News Bears in a fiercely contested showdown. With chances at a premium in this tense game, the referee’s whistle became one of the busiest players on the pitch, dishing out a flurry of yellow cards.

Both sides battled hard for control, but goals were few and far between, as resolute defending and last-ditch tackles kept the scoreboard quiet. Despite flashes of attacking brilliance, neither team could truly find their rhythm in the final third. Our lone goal scorer was Mostafa Taherian.

It was a match where every inch of turf was earned, not given.

Congratulations to our ‘Player of the Game‘ Mohsen Haghighat!

Strike Early, Strike Often!

By: Salvador H. C., Team Assistant Manager
Game played: Friday, August 1st, 2025

Mahdi H. holds the coveted ‘Player of the Game‘ belt after a stunning 3-goal performance!

On Friday, August 1st, our OT5 Westboro Wolves faced Des Collines Cougars on our home field at Ben Franklin. The match started with our team controlling the ball, creating good attacking plays. Towards the 10th minute, Mahdi H. scored the first goal of the match, following a good cross from a free kick. Shortly after, Helio A. scored a second goal for the Wolves. Just before the first water break, Des Collines Cougars scored a great goal from outside the box. Once the game resumed, Ada K. scored a goal from a corner kick. Towards the end of the half. Mahdi scored his second goal of the game. The first half ended 4-1 for our Wolves.

At the start of the half, the opposing team increased their pressure. Our keeper Bryan L. was called upon to make some good saves, even more so when Des Collines were awarded a penalty kick. They scored, making the game 4-2. Shortly after, Helio and Ada scored again, increasing our lead to 6-2, giving us much needed ‘peace of mind‘ and we commenced to take back the control of this game.

Shortly after the second water break, Faisal I. scored a beauty of a goal, 30 meters away from their goal line. Following another good attack, Mahdi scored his third goal of the game, earning his first hat trick of the season. We continued to press, and Salvador H. scored on a penalty kick, thanks to a foul against by Qemail V. in the box. Just before the end of the game, the Cougars scored another penalty kick and as the game was winding down, Justin M. scored our final goal, following a great drive down their area. The final score was 10-3 for the Wolves and Mahdi, with his three goals scored, was our ‘Player of the Game’.

Despite the final score, it was a hard-fought game. Our defensive line (Driton S., Kush S, Kevin M., Drew P., Mahamadou S., and Salvador) worked hard disrupting their plays, with the help of our center midfields (Justin, Faisal and Q), while leaving room for our offensive midfields (Kyle S., Vincent W., and Grant M.) to create more attacking plays.

We would also like to highlight the sportsmanship from Des Collines Cougars. It was a respectful game between both teams and an easy game to referee. We wish them nothing but the best for the remainder of this season and we look forward to playing against them next year.

Our next match will be against the Ottawa Bears, once again on our home field. Forza Wolves!

OT6

A Dominant First Half!

By: Adam Black, Team Player
Game played: Friday, August 1st, 2025

After suffering an early season defeat to the Ottawa Bears back in week 4, August 1st was a date that all our OT6 Wolves had circled in their calendars.  With the Bears winning by such a narrow, 2-1 margin in our previous meeting, which was a game chalk full of missed opportunities for the Wolves, it was time to apply the lessons learned and seek redemption!

Only moments after kick-off, it became quickly apparent that our Wolves were hungry and ready to settle the score!  And leading the way out of the gate was their renaissance man, Hakim ‘the Dream’ Tamimount who’s regained confidence in the striker spot had him causing Bears defenders fits in the game’s early goings.  It was 2 very quick goals from Tamimount that had the Wolves ahead early.

Adding to the score towards the end of the first half was veteran utility player, Scott ‘the Jackhammer’ Gray, capitalizing on a brilliant feed from his wingman, yours truly, Adam Black.  Gray’s ferocious playing style was certainly an inspiration for his teammates in this match.  It was 6-1 at half time for the Wolves, a score which stood right until the game’s final whistle. With holidays and injuries impacting the team, we’d like to extend a big thank you to our Wolves MR3 players, Jameson Bevington and Chris McMahon, for stepping up and helping us out. Your support is greatly appreciated!

With the win, the OT6 pack stays well in the hunt for first place, chasing a possible division crown with only 4 games to go on the season.  Well done Wolves!

Following up on the early lead and helping the team take control of the midfield was our ‘Player of the Game‘, Kevin ‘the Iceman’ Beyer, who added 2 goals of his own, both coming off of brilliant strikes from distance.  Beyer should have had 4 or 5 goals on the night, but that is a tale for another time…

Keep Calm and Hobble On!

By: Charles V., Team Manager
Game 1 played: Monday, July 28th, 2025

Thanks to the forest fire smoke that cancelled games back in June, we were treated to an unusual Monday night kick-off this week.  On the surface this should have been a fairly straightforward game as the team we were playing is mid-table.  That said on any given night, anything can happen, and as more and more Wolves players pulled out due to holidays and injuries, the risk of our winning streak going up in smoke seemed more and more real.

The injury bug that we have avoided for much of the season seems to be catching up with us. So much so, that even two of our three spares went down over the weekend, leaving our numbers threadbare.  Big kudos to Tom P. for soldiering on despite his Friday injury, and to Ted P. for agreeing to forego is contractual ‘load management’ night off.  BIG thanks also to Mitsuo Y. and Russ A. from our Wolves OT6 squad for coming out last minute to make sure we had enough to play.

As the game kicked off, we realized that the other opponent for the night would be the field itself. Hard as a rock and very uneven, the boys found control (and sometimes just staying on their feet) to be a challenge.  The pace of play also started quite slow, which suited our opposition but left us with few chances to score.  Fortunately, a nice through ball from our Bill M. left Marco B. in on net alone, potting an early goal that settled some nerves and tightened the scoring race with Jefferson D..  Unfortunately, that goal would stand as the only goal of the game for a long stretch.  In the interim, periodic impersonations of the Three Stooges and the Keystone Cops provided the other team with a few scoring opportunities of their own.  Most of these were snuffed out before they could become too dangerous, but a ball off the post was a reminder that 1-0 is a precarious lead.

As the game wore on, we found our feet and started to create more chances. Paul T. and Mimmo M. started making runs from the back that created space for several enticing through balls, and if not for some unfortunate bobbles, they would have widened the score line.  Our width also started to give us an advantage as Andrew, Russ, and Matthew C. were found in acres of space.  Finally, our striker Alonso G. fired a telling cross that Mits met with a well-placed header and the tension was broken.  One more from Mits gave us two goals in the last 15 minutes, and some room to breath. Unwilling to go down without a fight, however, one of their players curled a lovely corner that was destined for the near side before we managed to scramble it away, leveraging Mimmo’s back along the way.  All in all, we made fairly hard work of it, but team effort and team spirit prevailed for another shut out victory.  With another game this Friday, that will be three games in eight days… a true test for any team, let alone a group north of 50.

The exertions of the previous 90 minutes were quickly forgotten as Gerry brought out the post-game spread.  Aside from an excellent beverage selection, there was plenty of homemade flat bread pizza to go around… so delicious that Roberto S. and Andrew S. decided they needed to determine who could eat the most… rumour has it the competition stopped before it got to double figures, but I am not so sure.  The other rumour is that whoever lost the competition has to play in goal next game. 🙂

Post-game celebration featuring Charles V., Marco B., Mimmo M., Alonso G., and the host, Gerry V.

Homemade focaccia!

Soccer is one of the most unifying sports globally. Despite being competitors on the field, off the pitch we can share in the goodwill and mutual respect that make soccer truly special.

Our ‘Players of the Game‘ were Mitsuo, who scored a brilliant brace, and Paul, who was instrumental in building our play from the backline. Congratulations to both of you!

Strong Finish Makes the Difference!

By: Paul T., Asst. Team Manager

Game 2 played: Friday, August 1st, 2025

With both of our regular keepers unavailable, I proposed a pre-game ‘incentive’. The last player to show up would have to play in goal—and in return, they’d automatically get ‘Player of the Game‘ honours. Ted Pilon, who was nursing some soreness from two games earlier in the week, kindly volunteered to step in on the condition that he not be named ‘Player of the Game’.

Despite his disclaimer, Ted had a very solid showing in net, and he came up big with a breakaway save, provided a reliable back pass option, and only had to rely on the post once. Not bad for a reluctant keeper.

Early in the match, our striker, Dino Defranco, got things rolling. He just missed a rocket over the bar, was caught offside on the next play (his only one of the night), and then calmly slotted one home to put us up 1–0. Shortly after, Dino sent in a beautiful cross that Kevin Wirvin headed in for a second goal. Dino, Kevin, and Ted all had strong games, and each earned an honourable mention for Player of the Game.

Our opponents, the Almonte Adastras kept pressing—they moved the ball well and chased everything down, which made the rest of the first half a bit scrambly for us.

Just a minute into the second half, our Bill McIntyre sealed the momentum with a tight-angle finish to put us up 3–0. From that point, defender Gerry Valente and striker Alonso Gartner really took control. Gerry was a wall at the back, repeatedly shutting down Almonte’s fast and skillful attacks. Alonso finished the night with two clinical goals, wrapping up a comprehensive win.

Almonte may end up in the bottom half of the table, meaning we might not face them again, which is a shame—they’re one of the few teams that can actually generate scoring chances. They are much improved from last season.

Great team effort all around and a solid win. The post-game celebration with two of our fellow Wolves teams—and the texts flying around as I write this—are exactly why I love this team and this Club.

Proud to be a part of it! Forza Wolves!
