More Than the Score: A Night of Character and Commitment!

By: Jahleel B., Team Manager
Game played: Monday, August 11th, 2025

A tough but valiant effort from our whole team in our last game. Everyone left it all on the field, displaying heart, and determination from start to finish. While the result didn’t go our way, the spirit and fight were undeniable.

Special shoutout to our keeper, Will McNair, who stepped up in a big way — making some clutch saves at crucial moments to keep us in this game. His composure and focus under pressure made a real difference. And if that wasn’t enough, he also came through off the field, bringing refreshments and keeping everyone hydrated on a humid evening. That’s the kind of teammate every squad needs — dependable, selfless, and always ready to lift others up. Our gratitude also goes out to Wolves OT6’s Noah Bright, who answered the call when our numbers were low. He stepped in without hesitation and delivered a solid performance.

Proud of our team and looking forward to bouncing back stronger in our next game.

Congratulations to Will our ‘Player of the Game‘!

Early Exit but Valuable Lessons Learned in Ottawa Cup 2025!

By: Omid M., Team Manager
Game played: Monday, August 10th, 2025

The Ottawa Cup 2025 kicked off on August 10th with four opening-round fixtures, bringing together teams from across multiple divisions in a knockout showdown.

This season, our Wolves-Homa fielded two separate squads in the MR2 and MR4 divisions of the league. For the Cup, however, the club assembled a mixed roster from both teams — a strategic move aimed at giving new players valuable match experience on a bigger stage.

Wolves-Homa’s opening challenge was a tough one: a clash against the Gloucester Hornets MR1, played under scorching conditions of nearly 40°C. The heat took its toll early, with both sides feeling the strain, but it was the Hornets who found their rhythm first.

Within minutes, they seized control, pressing high and creating repeated threats. Wolves-Homa’s backline came under relentless pressure and soon conceded the opener. Two more quick goals followed, leaving the team reeling. A glimmer of hope emerged when Wolves-Homa earned a penalty, but we did not score. It was a good opportunity missed and to make matters worse, the Hornets struck again before halftime, sending our Wolves-Homa to the break trailing 4–0.

The second half was a different story. The game settled into a more even contest. Still, the damage had been done, and the final whistle confirmed a 5–0 defeat.

With that result, our Wolves-Homa’s Ottawa Cup 2025 journey came to an early end — but for the club’s younger and less experienced players, it was a valuable step forward on the path to bigger challenges ahead.

Three More Points in Wolves-Homa Red’s Pocket!

With three teams locked in a tight battle at the top of the MR2 table, our Wolves-Homa Red, fresh off a sudden elimination from the Ottawa Cup, faced Ottawa City. From the opening minutes, Wolves-Homa pressed forward aggressively and took a 2–0 lead thanks to a headed goal from the advancing defender Hossein Doutaghi off a corner kick and a strike from Mohammad Dehghan. However, Ottawa City responded quickly, netting twice to level the score.

Although it initially seemed that the strain of consecutive matches, injuries to key players, and overall fatigue could pose a challenge, however Wolves-Homa displayed patience and composure in the second half, taking full control of possession and space. This dominance resulted in three more goals — a penalty from Mostafa Taherian, a fine finish from Amir Deravi, and another from Mohammad Dehghan — sealing a convincing 5–2 victory and adding another crucial three points to their tally.

Next week will see the league’s most decisive clash as our Wolves-Homa Red takes on the Ottawa Internationals, a match that could prove pivotal in determining the MR2 divisional championship.

At the end of the match, Mahmoud Khanzadeh was named our ‘Player of the Match‘.

A Gritty Win Earned the Right Way!

By: Antonino Z., Team Manager
Game played: Wednesday, August 13th, 2025

On another hot and humid night, this game was nothing short of a nerve-wracking battle. We had golden opportunities to strike early, but fate, a crossbar, a post, kept us off the scoresheet.

We dominated much of the play, controlled possession and dictated the tempo—aside from a few sloppy clearances that gave them brief hope. We knew they had pace up front, and even when their forwards broke free, our recovery was outstanding. Repeatedly, we doubled back, snuffed out the danger, and held our line.

And yet, once again, the game’s referee became a headline for all the wrong reasons. A soft foul was called, followed by a highly questionable penalty. Justice, however, had the final word—their penalty taker missed the net, and we breathed a collective sigh of relief.  We booked their penalty-taker an ‘alignment’ appointment for next week to have his feet checked—clearly something is off. 🙂

As Kevin P. rightly said, ‘the ball doesn’t lie’!’

The half ended 0–0, and in our huddle, we talked about the need to stay sharp and focused. The effort was there—it was just a matter of time. And finally, our breakthrough came: after a beautiful sequence of ball movement up the field, Q.V. coolly buried the game-winner, sealing a hard-fought and well-deserved victory.

In the end, we all dug in to preserve our slim lead and saw this game through to the final whistle. We were not going to be denied the victory we richly deserved.  A solid, clean effort, everyone. Savour this one—but eyes forward to next week’s match!

Q.V. celebrates our winning goal!

Thank you to our Wolves MR4’s Q. and Wolves MR2’s Jahleel B. for once again stepping up. Your contributions continue to be invaluable. And a well-earned shout-out to the combined tandem of Anthony C., Alonso G., and Kevin R. for providing the beverages for tonight’s post-game celebration. A clutch performance off the field, too.

Our keeper Anthony’s father, Gord, kindly snapped over 900 photos of our game and here’s a few samples of his artistry.

Elevation!

What control by Kevin P.!!!

It truly warmed our hearts to see so many of our injured players and family members, some for the first time this season.  Dennis V., Hardy N., Anthony P., and Matteo Z.—your presence meant a lot.

Our Annual FAMILY NIGHT!

No shortage of ‘ZA‘!

We truly enjoyed hosting another ‘Family Night‘ and appreciate ALL those in attendance for their support in what I believe was an entertaining game—complete with some colourful language, plenty of passion, and some genuinely great soccer.

1st in our hearts!

Diego was our ‘Player of the Game.’ He put it all out on the field—playing through discomfort, absorbing physical pressure, and still managing to control the flow of play. Grit, leadership, and quality all rolled into one. Felicitaciones, Diego

Wolves-Albania Keep the Momentum Going!

By: Q. V., Team Manager
Game played: Tuesday, August 12th, 2025

It was a sweltering day, but the heat didn’t dampen the spirits of our Wolves-Albania squad as we took to the pitch to face off against Carleton Place at home. The stage was set for an exciting match, and our team didn’t disappoint.

The game got off to a flying start, with Wolves-Albania taking the lead from the penalty spot. The momentum continued to build, and before long, we’d added four more goals to our tally, leaving us up 5-0 at halftime. The score line reflected the dominance our Wolves- Albania had asserted over the opposition.

As the second half got underway, the effects of the heat began to take their toll. Despite the fatigue, our team refused to let up, and while Carleton Place managed to sneak in a penalty kick goal, our Wolves-Albania responded. The final score line read 7-1 in our favour, with Leorent, Q.V., and Besart A. netting two goals each, and Erblin adding the fifth goal.

Our Besart A. stepped up and scored not one, but two fine goals, earning him well-deserved ‘Player of the Game‘ honours.

It was an impressive team performance and we’re thrilled with the result. We’re already looking forward to our next match against the Gloucester Hornets next week.

Wolves Dominant Ottawa Internationals!

By: Gabe F., Team Manager
Game played: Tuesday, August 12th, 2025

Our Westboro Wolves delivered a fantastic performance in our latest match against the Ottawa Internationals, securing a dominant 5-1 victory! It was an incredible team effort with five different players finding the back of the net.

Our attack was relentless, with goals coming from every part of the field. Matt Hum and Gino Funai both found the back of the net, contributing to our impressive offensive showing. We were also awarded a penalty, which was calmly slotted home by our penalty specialist, Bren Walker.

The scoring didn’t stop there! Our Tristan Delorme added another goal to his tally, and to cap off the fantastic team effort, our leading scorer Roland El-Khoury grabbed one more to round out the scoring.

This fantastic victory is a testament to our team’s depth and skill. The entire squad played with heart, and we’re ready to keep this momentum rolling into our next game!

FORZA WOLVES!

With a crucial goal at a pivotal moment in the match, Gino earned our nod for ‘Player of the Game‘.

Draw No More: Wolves-Homa Get the Job Done!

By: Kasra Davatgar, Team Manager
Game played: Tuesday, August 12th, 2025

Our Wolves-Homa ended their run of draws in Week 12 of the OCSL with a strong 3–1 win.

From the first minutes, Wolves-Homa attacked and created chances. Mohsen Haghighat-Pasand hit the crossbar early in the game. Later in the first half, he scored the opening goal, and Wolves-Homa went into halftime leading 1–0.

In the second half, Gloucester team scored on a quick counterattack to make it 1–1. Our Wolves-Homa answered quickly — Elman Safaei dished a great pass to Mohammad Dehghan, who scored to make it 2–1. A few minutes later, Amir Momenpour dribbled past several defenders and passed to Dehghan again, who scored his second goal to make it 3–1.

Our Wolves-Homa kept attacking and controlling the ball until the end, and the score stayed at 3–1.

Hares Khalvati was named ‘Player of the Game’ for his exceptional performance.

The Heat’s No Match – We’ve Got Freezies!

By: Adam Black, Team Player
Game played: Friday, August 15th, 2025

The August 15th matchup between the OT6 Wolves and the Spitfires was particularly significant as the season nears its end and the division title remains contested.  And luckily for our Wolves, goalkeeper Francis ‘the Wall’ Breault delivered yet another outstanding goalkeeping performance on the night, notably making a crucial penalty kick save that preserved the Wolves’ momentum.  It was even said that ‘the heat from his focused glare towards the opposing penalty kicker was enough to cause the ball to rise well above the net!’

Crucial saves and stalwart defensive play was enough for our Wolves to stay in the hunt as they marched off with a 4-1 victory by the game’s end.  On the offensive side, the goals were scored by Jay ‘Doc’ Leclair, who contributed two goals, and single markers were added by Kevin ‘the Iceman’ Beyer, and Hakim ‘the Dream’ Tamimount.

Following the match, refreshing Freeze pops (freezies) were distributed, which swift defender Nico ‘Chappy’ Valenzuela particularly appreciated, remarking that they evoked fond memories of his youth soccer days.

In lieu of cold beverages, perhaps sliced oranges should be considered for halftime refreshments, and motivation, at future games.  Hmm, perhaps not.

Well done, Wolves!  The hunt for a division title continues.

From Runways to Run Plays: Our Wolves Outlast Royals!

By: Domenico P., Team Keeper
Game played: Friday, August 15th, 2025

A warm and dry Friday evening in the nestled football pitch of Grenfell Park where weeks earlier in a previous match between the same two teams, the terrain was green and lush only to be replaced with a yellow and straw-like field.  Despite these conditions, children played baseball, adults played tennis, and the squirrels opted not to mate nearby, as it was just too hot.  It was a match that our Wolves needed to win to inch closer to securing their promotion to MOT3, however before the match could be played, our Wolves were more concerned if they would be able to field enough players.

The last few weeks saw a number of players on holidays or injured, and having enough players every match would be key to ensuring the team’s flight to promotion.  It was an evening that saw Mark F. away following oral surgery (though many of his teammates believed that if he didn’t talk he could play the match, after all, half the team doesn’t understand what he says on the pitch as he sounds like a character from the cult classic movie, Trainspotting), and whether Frank ‘Flight Risk’ M. would make it back on time for the match as he was flying into Ottawa.  Would there be someone to pick-him-up?  If his wife were to pick-him-up, would she pack all his gear?  So many questions, but fortunately he would arrive on time, and his contribution would be paramount to the outcome of the match.

With our Team’s Manager still away, the responsibility rested on his trustworthy assistant Paul T. who announced the line-up, gave the pep-talk, and reminded everyone that losing is not an option this late in the season.  The team heard his message loud-and-clear and were ready to play to the death (not really though)  to not disappoint Paul T..

With a number of key midfielders away, the responsibility fell upon Ted P., Kevin W. and Jason O., and they did not disappoint.  They owned the midfield with not only great ball distribution and play organization, but forcing turnovers with the right amount of nudging to not have a call stop the flow of the match.  Clearly, the lads had watched some football highlights prior to the match to give them that extra motivation.

The defensive unit continued to not disappoint, after all Gerry V. brought out his wife, Roberto S. brought out his temperament, and Mimmo M. his genius.  Paul T., Tony Z., and Tom P. just made sure that the midfield got their passes to move the ball to the strikers.  Unfortunately, a miscommunication late in the first half saw the Royals slip a ball around and behind our sprawling Wolves keeper.  That would be the last time he would be beaten.

Fortunately, Frank M’s flight arrived on time and having taken a powernap while onboard, he was ready to play and play Frank did!  Late in the first half, he took a well-placed pass from a highly motivated Neil H. and down the pitch Frank would run and blast a ball past a stunned and bewildered Royals goalkeeper to put the Wolves up 3-1 and give us the insurance that would be needed to take control of the match.

The second half would see our Oscar A. sustain a foot injury and with the Wolves’ goalkeeper having plenty of time on his hand, he immediately conveyed the change to our line-up to move Neil as the additional striker.  Too late, Paul had already made that decision.  Clearly great football minds think alike!

Neil would go on to score a goal in the second half to seal the win and see the Wolves inch closer to promotion with three remaining games.  Every match is now a must win, and the Wolves will be up to the challenge.

As the whistle blew to end the match, Gerry’s wife was asked about the match but more importantly about any tips that would improve her husband’s on-pitch performance, and her response was merely, ‘I just want to thank you guys for letting Gerry play with you…you’re all very kind.’

With Gerry having won the ‘Player of the Game‘ Award last week, it was his responsibility to name this game’s honouree.  He would go on to give perhaps one of the best speeches for the award by highlighting the performance of many of the players, with each one believing that they would be shortlisted for the award and the mug, however, out of the blue, the award would be given to Neil…a surprise to no one, but perhaps a special shout-out to Frank who ran across an airport, jumped onto the luggage conveyor belt, and into his car to get to the match…alas, you can’t win them all.
