A Challenging Night for our Wolves MR2!

By: Jahleel B., Team Manager
Game played: June 16, 2025

It was a tough, unfortunate evening that didn’t go our way. We faced a strong Falcons team that had all the right gears in motion. While all ours were not. We will regroup and strive for a better result in our next match!

Our Samuel Pearce was the ‘Player of the Game‘, putting in the work to make sure we stayed at pace!

MR2 HOMA

A Halt at the Station of Misfortune!

By: Omid M., Team Manager
Game played: June 16, 2025

In Week 5 of OCSL play, our Wolves-Homa MR2 were held to a 3-3 draw at home against the Ottawa Internationals. Our players played with heavy hearts and were emotionally affected by the conflict in their home country.

Both teams displayed beautiful, tactical, and commendable football. However, according to the stats, it was our Wolves-Homa who had more possession and created more attacking opportunities.

Our Wolves-Homa conceded the first goal early in this match, but as always, we fought back to equalize. Our Wolves-Homa had numerous scoring chances during the match, including hitting the opponent’s crossbar, not once, not twice but an incredible, three times! One of their goals was controversially disallowed by the young referee. whose performance could have been better.

In this match, Mostafa Taherian, our Wolves-Homa’s influential midfielder, scored two goals, and Vahid Farhadi added one.

Our ‘Player of the Game‘, as chosen by the coaching staff, went to Mostafa Taherian.

Well done, Mostafa!

Resilience and Teamwork Lead to Convincing Victory!

By: Antonino Z., Team Manager
Game played: June 18, 2025

In all the years I’ve been managing this team, we’ve never had so many regulars away for one game…until now and ALL of you knew the task laid before us and you came focused and ready to play. The stifling heat was a factor, especially for some of our players who had already played this week.  We managed the adverse conditions well and followed it with a dominant on-field performance and controlled large parts of this game. We were rightly rewarded for playing this game the ‘right way‘ … clean!

Our first half was pedestrian. We scored only 1 goal but it could have been more. Our Stefano Giamberadino pounced on a rebound to start the parade. We finished the half with a lead and reemphasized the need to maintain our composure and focus, despite some heavy play from our opponents, and to keep supporting each other on and off the pitch. You can see the determination in our play that followed.  We knew one goal wouldn’t be enough. Our opponents had the ability to strike quickly so we needed some cushioning. Our persistence paid off. Our striker Carlo Zito scored, followed by a screamer of a goal courtesy of Kevin Pereira (that ball was kicked with authority, it was a no-doubter), and finally, a beautifully placed free kick by Michael Maguire.

Once again, our makeshift back-line was SUPER SOLID. There were quiet but steady plays by Matteo Zito and Mitsuo Yamada and more ‘eye-opening’ performances by Jahbaar Thompson, Michael, Billy Ford, and Jameson Bevington.

Our midfielders were carving the pitch, zigzagging, and moving the ball with purpose. Props to Kian Yamada, Jahleel, Timothy, Ian Alexander, Kevin P., Samuel Wells, Kevin Ridgway, Joe Catanzariti, and Stefano. Our keeper, Anthony Weber. wasn’t overly busy but when he was called upon, especially late in the game, he made sure his sheet was kept clean!

Thanks very much to our Wolves call-ups… our MR2’s Jahleel Baay and Billy Ford, MR4’s Timothy Austen, and OT6’s, Mitsuo Yamada (yes, Kian’s father). We are grateful for the extra support!

This game beautifully captured our team’s resilience, teamwork, and individual contributions. Be proud!

Like son, like father!

Father’s Day has passed, but we’re still celebrating our bonds by playing alongside our sons in League play. Seen here are: Antonino and Matteo Zito with Kian and Mitsuo Yamada.

❤️

Hijo, Diego, and Papi, Alonso Gartner.

Our ‘Player of the Game‘ was Ian Alexander.

With his father watching from the sidelines, Ian raised his game to another level. His new nickname should be ‘BALL HAWK‘! He defended well, was strong on the ball, and took on players twice his size and won ALL the battles. Well done YOU!

MR4 ALB Triumphs In Carleton Place!

By: Q. V., Team Manager
Game played: June 17, 2025

Our last game against Carleton Place was a resounding success, with the team securing a thrilling victory. The 8:30 PM kickoff proved to be a blessing, as the cool evening air seemed to invigorate our players, who went on to deliver an outstanding performance.

The team’s ball movement was crisp and precise, with players working together seamlessly to create scoring opportunities. Leorent P. was once again a force to be reckoned with, scoring three goals and solidifying his impressive form. The team’s offense was well-coordinated, and our attacking plays were a joy to watch.

But it wasn’t just the offense that shone – our team’s defense was equally impressive. Despite conceding two goals, the ‘D’ held strong, with Rei Fortuzi, our central defender, playing a crucial role in keeping the opponent’s strikers at bay.

Throughout the game, the team demonstrated excellent teamwork, coordination, and strategy. Our ability to work together and support each other was evident in every aspect of their play, from the precise passing to the solid defending. The 5-2 win was a testament to the team’s hard work and dedication, and we can take confidence from this impressive victory.

His stellar performance earned Rei our ‘Player of the Game‘ title, a well-deserved recognition of his outstanding work on the field.

Wolves Dominate Ottawa Internationals!

By: Gabe F., Team Manager
Game played: June 17, 2025

Our Westboro Wolves MR4 team delivered a commanding performance in Week 5, securing a well-deserved 3-1 win over the Ottawa Internationals! It was a game where our determination and relentless attacking play truly shone through.

We kicked off this match with incredible pace, immediately taking control and dominating possession. Despite our strong start, the Ottawa Internationals managed to strike first with a well-placed long free kick. But we didn’t let that faze us. We quickly responded when our Eyouma Ewelle rose above the defense to score a beautiful header from a corner kick, leveling the score! Just before halftime, Roland El-Khoury found the back of the net, putting us up 2-1 as we headed into the break.

After the half, there was no letting up. We kept our foot firmly on the gas, playing hard and creating chance after chance throughout the entire 45 minutes of the second half. We peppered their goal, even hitting the post multiple times, before finally getting our third goal. Tristan Delorme sealed the deal with that third and final goal, securing a fantastic 3-1 victory!

FORZA WOLVES!

A huge shout-out for our ‘Player of the Game‘, Tim Austen, for his tireless efforts, contributing significantly both in attack and defense.

Wolves-Homa’s First Win in a Dominant Possession Game!

By: Nima H., Team Manager
Game played: June 17, 2025

In Week 4 of the 2025 OCSL League play, our Wolves-Homa MR4 squad secured a commanding victory over the Gloucester Hornets. This match was played on the smooth and pristine Terry Fox field.

The weather was ideal. Both teams started cautiously, but as the game progressed, the Wolves-Homa gradually took control through their experience and composure. Our Mostafa Taherian opened the scoring, putting us ahead. The opposing team responded by pushing more players forward in an attempt to equalize, but our Wolves-Homa’s defense and defensive midfielders remained alert and neutralized their every attack. Regaining control, the Wolves-Homa doubled the lead with a goal by Heddar Badro, going into halftime with a comfortable advantage.

In the second half, our Wolves-Homa dominated possession and added two more goals—another from Heddar and one more scored by Amir Deravi—sealing a convincing 4–0 win. Notably, this was the first match in which our Wolves-Homa kept a clean sheet and earned their first full three points of the season, which led to a notable climb up the standings.

Our Shahab Savari was named ‘Player of the Game‘ by the coaching staff and was presented with a commemorative gift in recognition for his outstanding performance.

In-Game Adjustments Pay Off!

By: Salvador H. C., Team Assistant Manager
Game played: June 20, 2025

Our OT5 Westboro Wolves

On Friday, June 20th, our OT5 Westboro Wolves faced the Ottawa Bears on their homefield in Kanata. This was a big challenge as the Bears were at the top of our division and our team had to be at its best to achieve a good result that could move us up the table.

The match started with each team seeking possession and creating good plays on both sides of the goal. Fortunately, our keeper Bryan Lefebvre was commanding the defense, keeping any real danger at bay. As the first half progressed, our midfield started to gain better control of the game. Towards the 15th minute of the first half, a good play on the Bears’ box led our Qemail V. to score our first goal with a shot to the right-hand corner. It was 1-0 Wolves.

The Wolves kept pressuring and playing like it’s 0-0 (those who know us, know that this is one of the team’s mottos). Our mids Jamie Harris, Bujar Hoti, Jeton Laqi, Faisal Ibrahim, Jeff Vandermeulen, Qemail V, Grant McSheffrey, Mahdi Memmati and Luca Ruggiero kept the pressure on the Bears’ side of the field. Our forwards, Adakole Kennedy, Kevin Moorhouse and Vincent Wienecke created good scoring chances, but the ball just wouldn’t go in. Just before the first water break, the Bears tied the game. During that water break, Kevin M. went to play defense to give us more balance. Towards the end of the half, Luca R. scored a beautiful goal from the left side of the box. It was 2-1 for the Wolves at the half.

During the second half, the Bears increased the pressure, looking to tie the game. This was the half where the defensive line shined. Driton Selmani, Bujar H, Kevin M., Kyle Saunders, Justin Mondoux, Mahamadou Samake and Salvador Herencia-Carrasco played and communicated well to keep their forwards away from our box. Our keeper, Bryan L., made some great saves and despite some good scoring chances for us, the game ended with a well-earned and hard-fought victory for the Wolves.

Despite some isolated rough plays, proper of a close game, it was a clean match where both teams played fair and respectfully. We wish the Bears the best and we look forward to hosting them later in the season. Our next match will be against OASC on our home field. This will be another big challenge to our team.

The ‘Players of the Game‘ were Kyle S., Justin M., and Luca R.. Congratulations, and keep up the good work.

OT6

The One That Got Away!

By: Adam B., Team Player
Game played: June 20, 2025

Our OT6 Wolves were on the road for their game on June 20th against the division leading Ottawa Internationals Leopards. They knew it was going to be a test, especially with a lower than expected headcount, as a number of players were absent on the night.

After our Wolves were able to jump ahead to an early 3-0 lead, it quickly became evident that the night’s game was going to turn physical.  And the many fans in attendance feared that this change in style of game play would fall in favour of the Ottawa International Leopards.  And from that point on, there were many bumps and bruises along the way, including a lengthy play stoppage while Noah “like a diamond” Bright was carted off the field with a severely bloodied nose.

In the end, it was a game that may have gotten away from the Wolves as the chances were many but just a little bit of bad luck, or maybe it was fatigue setting in, but either way our Wolves just couldn’t capitalize on our many glorious chances.  The game ended in a draw, with single markers scored by Jay “Doc” Leclair, Kevin “the Iceman” Beyer, Mark “Big Whopper” Burger and “The Duke” himself, Liam Smithies.

Bumps and bruises aside, the team was able to still gather and enjoy some piping hot pizza and a few bevies!

Missed Opportunities!

By: Domenico P., Team Keeper
Game played: June 20, 2025

It was a perfect Friday evening for football. Birds chirping and the squirrels were mating, we were
surrounded by mature trees and the sounds of children playing baseball and with their families supporting them enthusiastically, it felt that we too could have benefitted from a cheering squad.

The match saw a return to the line-up of Kevin Wirvin and Frank Maiorino, and their
impact was immediately felt. Kevin running up and down the left wing and creating
scoring opportunities throughout the match, however the biggest impact on his return
was Frank who helped start the scoring with a head-scratching pass back between two
of our unsuspecting defenders which saw the opposing striker pounce on the ball and charge to
the net and blast the ball past a diving goalkeeper to see Ottawa City take an early 1-0
lead. Frank was testing our defense, and it worked, they played much better after that
play and the goalkeeper saw very little action afterwards.

With our Westboro Wolves behind for the first time this season, the team’s psychological
mindset was put to the test. Our team pushed forward and created opportunities to
equalize, but it would take nearly a dozen shots on goal to finally tie the match on the
last play of the first half. However, during the first half, with Andrew Specogna unable to
play due to personal reasons, the burden fell upon Matthew Crosier who would have to be what they call in Hollywood, ‘a triple threat’, but instead of singing, dancing, and acting, Matthew would have to ‘run, pass, and cross’. He did not disappoint that evening, he was our Hugh Jackman and deserved a ‘Hollywood Star’ for his performance.

Our half-time talk was about keeping the emotions in check and to focus on the match. The intensity of the match grew and with that the stress. Our Mark Freel had a meltdown on the sideline and for some reason recalled his traumatic culinary experience growing-up in Scotland as his mother boiled everything from asparagus to broccoli to wankers (Scottish for sausages) and it all tasted the same! Mark begged his mother to add a pinch of salt or even motor oil (as there was no olive oil in Scotland in the 1970s) to add flavour. Things you learn while on the sidelines!

😆

The play started to get chippy, and our managers pleaded for us to calm down. As the match progressed, that elusive next goal was hard to come by and we missed countless good scoring opportunities as Ottawa City’s goalkeeper kept them in the game. Fortunately, our defender Gerry Valente’s favourite brother, Rico Valente showed up to support the team with a few jokes, and a friendly reminder to not forget about Gerry even if he is off to Italy to train with his beloved Foggia Calcio’s over 40-year-old training camp. Let’s see if that’s really the case. We also had Wolves alumni Rocky Caminiti pop in for a visit, chomping to get back with our Wolf Pack. This was the aforementioned cheering squad we needed!

The match ended in a 1-1 draw and while there was a sense of disappointment for a lost opportunity to claim what would have been a well-earned 3 points, the real disappointment was that after the match, the team ran-out of post-game bevies!

It was a solid performance by everyone, on and off the pitch!

Our ‘Player of the Game‘ award went to Marco Bernabo who quietly controlled the midfield and defence, however Mark Freel, Paul Turnau, and Matthew Crosier could be seen dumping their remaining water over their shirts to attempt to convince Charles that they
should be considered given how much they sweat for the team. Charles would not be fooled. Marco earned his POG belt and a Westboro Wolves mug that he wasn’t sure he had to return so he decided to lick all around it and now it is his forever.
