Unfortunate Bounce Spoils our WOLVES MR2’s Efforts!
By: Jon Regali, Team Player
Game played August 5th, 2024
Our Wolves started this game with conviction and came close to scoring within minutes. Unfortunately, our goal was called offside and another opportunity hit the post. Unable to capitalize on the chances created, both teams went to the half scoreless.
The second half started in much the same way with our Wolves pressing and creating chances. And it wasn’t until an unlucky own goal changed the momentum of the game allowing the other team to take it up notch. Our Wolves ultimately ran out of gas and creativity, conceding 2 late goals that sealed the game. It was a tough loss.
Being that it was a holiday Monday, we sincerely thank our Wolves call-ups for their help in filling our game-day roster. They were MR4’s Q. Vuniqi, Matteo, and Tony Zito, as well as OT6’s Salvador Herencia Carrasco.
Our ‘Player of the Game‘ was CB Gareth B. for patrolling our back-line effectively, all game.

A Tight Race Among the Championship Contenders at the Top of the Table!
By: Omid Mirshahi, Team Ops. Manager
Game played August 7th, 2024
In the twelfth week of the competition, we faced the Falcons on their home field. We entered the pitch aiming for victory and started the game with an attacking strategy. In the first half, we launched around 20 attacks and managed to score a goal. In the second half, the game flow was more through the midfield. This time, it was the Falcons who took advantage of their few opportunities and leveled the game.
With only a few minutes left in the game, the referee pointed to the penalty spot for the Falcons. Their opportunity was converted into a goal, resulting in a tie in this crucial match, keeping the final weeks of the league intensely competitive.
Our ‘Players of the Game’ were Mahdi and Amir. Thank you!

A Statement Game by our WOLVES MR4!

This is how you reply after last week’s disappointing result!
In our pre-game chat group convos and on-field huddle, we spoke about a fast start and getting on the board early. We had complete possession for a good part of the first quarter. It appeared, despite our efforts, we might not get that opening goal that seems to kick us into that extra gear. But we weren’t going to be denied much longer. The sheer effort by Q.V., Kevin P, and Stefano G. (who popped his … ‘goose-egg’) made sure we went into the break with a comfortable 4-0 lead.
With that said, our 2nd half got off to a slower start than anticipated. We allowed Gloucester back into this game. A few encouraging words about re-focusing got us back on track as we potted 2 more goals to see this game out comfortably.
Be proud Boyz…we are almost there!
Our ‘Players of the Game‘ were chosen for their combined performance of adding and subtracting goals. Q, in his first game back since mid-June, and Kevin P. combined for a total of 5 goals. And Dennis played an entire 90 mins, making sure our opponents scored NONE! Q. chose a real banger tune, DJ Hollanda’s ‘Montagem Coral‘, as their celebratory song!

Our OT1 Wolves were the only team that managed to play their scheduled game on this Friday night due to the luck of being assigned a turf field.
Once again their numbers were low and they were done in by two penalties. Our Wolves were unable to muster any offence of their own. Despite the outcome, the score as not indicative of our team’s heart and effort.
Thanks to our MR3 call-up Jon Regali and our ‘Player of the Game‘ Juan Nicholas Guerrero.

HERE COMES THE RAIN AGAIN – FALLING ON MY HEAD LIKE A MEMORY…
By: Domenico Pecora, Team Keeper
Following a week of Ottawa being under a heat advisory, the city fell under another weather advisory and this time it was excessive rainfall as the city was expected to receive remnants of Hurricane Debby. Fortunately, apart from significant rain, there was no damage as experienced by many other cities and regions. Unfortunately, it resulted in the cancellation of Friday matches and that meant the cancellation of the much anticipated rematch between our Westboro Wolves and the Rockers United. A match that would either see the Wolves increase their lead with only 5 matches remaining or a defeat would likely see a battle for top spot and promotion down to possibly the last week of the season.
So much would have been riding on the match, however, with the cancellation, it also served as an opportunity for a number of injured Wolves to continue to heal and return to the line-up with the remaining matches.
As the rain pounded the City and waterlogged our soccer pitches, many Westboro Wolves MOT players were standing in front of the home windows imagining what a match in the heavy rain would actually look like, perhaps one of those mud-filled matches from their younger years where they would play in the most sloppy conditions and return home happy and their mothers cleaning them up and preparing a warm meal. Then it reality hit, if they came home soiled, they would be greeted by their significant other with a stern warning which would include, “don’t come into the house until you’ve stripped down and leave those clothes in the garage…why would you go out there and play? How old are you?”.
Perhaps it was best we stayed home and refocused our efforts for the following week and the remaining matches as we will need to be healthy and focused if we hope to secure promotion!
All our other OT and Masters OT team’s games were cancelled due to the torrential rain fall.
The City didn’t want their wet fields to be damaged.
These games will be rescheduled at a later date.
