Our Wolves MR3 Achieve a Milestone!
By: Roozbeh Manesh, Team Manager
Game 3 played June 05, 2024
In the third week of our 2024 OCSL League play, the Westboro Wolves MR3 were victorious in a tough and physical match against the second-place, Lynwood Manics, with a 2-1 win.
This match, once again accompanied by the warm and enthusiastic presence of Iranian spectators, was held at City Center Park.
From the start of the game, Westboro Wolves began attacking and created multiple scoring opportunities against Lynwood. Finally, it paid off and we scored twice in both the first and second halves.
At the 85th minute, Lynwood replied back with a goal of their own but our Wolves held tight and recorded their first win of this young season.
Our ‘Player of the Game’
was our Defensive Mid-fielder,
Amirhossein Amanzadeh

What a second half-effort!
If you told me that we would come back from a 3-1 deficit with four unanswered goals, I would have said, maybe, just maybe there was a good chance. Part of our journey is facing adversity, which we did in the first 45 minutes when we made uncharacteristic mistakes that led to 2 goals. Strange as this may sound, this was a good test for us.
Our match-ups have been getting tougher each week, we’ve managed to cobble together a formidable line-up with various injuries and absences of key players and we’ve met these challenges head-on and persevered. We did well to come all the way back in this game.
I am proud of how resilient we are. We made adjustments. I believe they only had one open look at our net late in this game. When we scored our 2nd goal, our confidence grew. This was followed by our 3rd, a tenacious effort by Kevin Ridgway and we were filled with the hope of a comeback and the possibility of a victory. Two insurance goals, one by CM Hardy Nunez de la Torre (full marks for taking a beating in the box and then having enough left to take the PK and score- see video attached) and the other by CF Carlo Zito, who also took a knock but willed that ball slowly into their net as their keeper crawled to try and grab it!
It doesn’t matter if they’re pretty, they all count!
This is a game we ALL should be proud of. This became an impromptu ‘family night’ and I’m sure our supporters that were present were equally pleased with the result.
Enjoy this feeling of accomplishment and let’s keep rolling into our next game.
We’ve often said that we’re more than a Club, we are family. Some of our players were toddlers when their fathers joined us and now they too are part of the Pack.
Our Westboro Wolves ‘Player of the Game’ was Joseph Catanzariti. He may not have scored a goal but he was certainly involved in helping create them. He utilized his speed and dispossessing skills.
Thank you and well done Joseph! 🙌
Other goals scorers:
Kevin R. – 1
Carlo – 2
Diego – 1
Hardy – 1

Our Wolves OT1 Keep on Rolling!

Game 3 played June 07, 2024
Our Wolves continued their strong start to the season with an inspiring 4-1 win over a big rival from the east end, Gloucester Inter.
With the heavy rain and heavy traffic, things looked a little dicey in the warmup for the Wolves, with only 10 players to start the match. However, who else but Dom Morgante, to come to the Wolves rescue, and slot into the lineup for his first appearance of the season. His crisp passing helped settle the Wolves, despite a back four composed of a striker (Liam Smithies), attacking mid (Mark Burger), center mid (Timon Gareau) and only one truly experienced center back (Kevin Beyer). Naturally, it was the defense which got the offence going, as Timon fired home a lay off from Jeff Dennis into the top corner. Inter struck back right away with a neat finish off the post that Nicholas Guerrero had no chance on.
From there the back four settled in and the speed of the Wolves took over. Mark and Jeff created lots of crossing angles from the right, Liam laid through many balls for Peter Akpan on the left and Christian Kperegbeyi and Mike Owen created lots of havoc up the middle. Then once Juan Carlos arrived, this gave the Wolves just enough bench to survive the 90 minutes.
It was the Wolves who decided to grab the match by the scruff of the neck. First off, it was Peter who intercepted a pass and went one-on-one with the keeper, driving the ball home to become the season’s first hat trick hero. Secondly, it was Jeff Dennis, on the receiving end of a curled free kick from Maaakkk, who controlled and tapped home the insurance goal, to seal a convincing 4-2 Wolves victory.
Mike Popeil scored the second on a nice finish from the left hand side; Jeff undressed his defender and chipped the keeper for the clincher, after a lovely diagonal ball from Liam; and Christian put it away, with the slowest chip shot in history, effectively denying Liam of a goal.
From there the back four, with great support from Eamon Kavanagh, locked it down as Inter sent wave after wave of attackers to no avail. Timon’s gutty contribution at both ends of the pitch earned him ‘Player of the Game’ and is showing true signs of defender potential.
Maaakkk hosted a Euro 2024 themed German cookout with pretzels, bratwurst, sauerkraut, potato salad and apple strudel, all washed down with deliciously cold beverages. Prost!!!
Thanks also to the great fan turnout this week. What brought them out? The bratwurst or a chance to see the rookies play?
The Wolves now sit at 3-0 with a crunch match coming up against AC Fiorentina Mkango on Sunday.

Our Wolves OT6 Deserved Better!

Game 3 played June 07, 2024
For our third game of the season, our OT6 Wolves team faced the Gloucester Eagles. Due to the many days of rain, this game was rescheduled to be played at Centrepointe field. This smaller and slippery field resulted in a back and forth game. At the start, both teams had good scoring chances, with a greater control of the game by our squad. However, following a free kick, Gloucester scored first.
The Wolves kept their pace and we had plenty of chances to score, including a penalty kick. Unfortunately, the ball did not want to go in and the first half finished with Wolves down by 1 goal. At the start of the second half, the Wolves continued to control the game, creating good scoring chances. A fastbreak from the Eagles ended with the ball in our net. Being down by 2 goals, the Wolves added more pressure and within 5 minutes, we tied the game. Q. Vuniqi scored both goals with a pair of missiles from outside the box.
However, 3 minutes later, in another break from the Eagles, our keeper, Bryan Lefebvre stopped the ball in the box. The forward rammed into him, causing Bryan to lose possession of the ball resulting in an Eagles goal. This was a clear foul against our keeper that the referee should have called. This was a disappointing for our team as we felt this was an unfair.
The Wolves kept pushing forward. The Eagles scored two more goals on fast breaks and towards the end, Q scored his third goal of the game. The final score was a 5-3 loss for the Wolves.
Our next game will be in our homefield, facing the Almonte Lynx.
Our ‘Player of the Game’ was Q who scored all of our goals.

Another Short Bench but Our Wolves MOT4 Get it Done!
By: Charles Vincent, Team Manager
Game 3 played June 07, 2024
Another great game from our MOT4 team, this time against the Ottawa Falcons. While the rain threatened, the weather held and the field was in great shape (especially for those of us with creaky joints).
Numbers were tight for us again with our roster of 25 reduced to 13… and within 15 minutes we were down to the 11 who would finish the game. A big shout out to a few guys who came to play despite carrying knocks, including Mark Freel and Adam Twarog (who managed to gut it out the whole game). Thanks also to the guys who came to cheer us on even though they could not suit up.
Overall we controlled long stretches of the game, although the Falcons played an excellent game themselves, as they were equally short on numbers. Kevin Wirvin and Fabrizio Smilovich ( who was making his season debut) were a solid central mid combo… Alonso Gartner and Moe Fakih were a constant threat up front, all game… and the back line was imperious again, with a special shout out to Gerry Valente whose many clearances kept things tidy. Of course, Dom Pecora was his usual calming presence in the net, cleaning up when balls did get through.
In the end, we ran out a deserved 4-2 victory, taking all three points on the road, with Alonso our hat-trick hero and ‘Player of the Game’.
Next Friday we play an in-form Hotspurs team so we’re very much hoping a few more guys can get off the trainer’s table and onto the pitch.
