RAIN RAIN Go AWAY!
by Team Manager, Jahleel Baay
Game played on July 15, 2024
In a matter of minutes, a bright, humid, and sunny day turned grey with cumulonimbus clouds scattered above. This was soon followed by a torrential rainfall. Our thoughts were that there was no way we were going to play tonight!
But just like that … it was done.
That downpour resulted in a slight reprieve from the heat, and we were set to play our match.
On this night, it was a late start, plus no wet, muddy field to deal with. Thankfully, we were playing on turf at Franco-Cite.
It was a tight affair. Despite the narrow margin loss, our ‘Brazilian duo’ of Kaleb Rodrigues and Miller Botelho played exceptionally well. Kaleb scored two amazing goals!
Their contributions earned them our ‘Player of the Game’ honours.

WOLVES MR3 Win Streak Ends After 5 Consecutive Victories?
by Team Manager, Roozbeh Manesh
Game played on July 17, 2024
In the ninth week of OCSL League play, the table leaders faced off, as the Westboro Wolves hosted the Lynwood Wolves at their home field, the uOttawa Stadium. In a high-pressure game, they ceded three points to their closest rival.
Our Wolves, aiming to cement their top position with this home game, were surprised right at the beginning, conceding the first goal in the first minute due to an individual defensive error.
Despite this setback, Westboro tried to take control of the game, launching numerous attacks on the Lynwood Wolves’ goal. However, despite having 60% of ball possession and continuous penetrations from the flanks, Lynwood’s tight defense prevented our Wolves from creating scoring opportunities.
Starting the second half with a more offensive lineup, Westboro’s repeated attacks were thwarted by Lynwood’s physical and compact defense. Lynwood, having scored 42 goals in the past 8 games, boasted the best attacking line in the competition. They were poised to exploit Westboro’s attacking formation with counterattacks. Ultimately, in the 90th minute, Lynwood’s forward Brevin Mackay managed to steal the ball from Westboro’s defense and score his team’s second goal on a counterattack. With this result, the contending teams are set for a fierce competition for the championship in the final weeks.
In the tenth week of the competition, Westboro Wolves will face Lynwood Manic.
We thank our ‘Players of the Game’ Reza and Hossein for their inspired play!

The HEAT is ON!
by Team Manager, Tony Zito
Game played on July 15, 2024
In this game, we came out of the gate with that great energy that we’ve talked about, and this led to our first strike. An unexpected ball at their net by Hardy Nunez de la Torre that fooled their keeper and who’s awkward save attempt landed fortuitously towards Kevin Pereira who made no mistake. Our Wolves scored that important first goal. The following 2 were masterfully created due to our tenacious press on their defenders.
Love it!
On a night when the humidity was not letting up, we managed to maintain control of this game.
Check out these photos taken during our game:
That’s 8 wins in a row!
Thanks to Stefano and Tony Z. for the post-game refreshments.
As Ahmed Rashid says….
ONE MORE GOAL!
Our mid-field maestros Kian and Diego had themselves a game. Although they didn’t score any goals, their possession helped stop them. That was crucial during our opponent’s second-half push. Kian chose ‘Shake it Off’ by Taylor Swift as his celebratory song!

So close, or at least somewhat closer than the score might otherwise indicate!
Battling significant player injuries and absences, the OT5 Wolves knew they’d be up against the wall at South Gower Park in Kemptville last Friday, during their rematch against the Kemptville Cougars. With near, season-low attendance numbers, it’s clear that the Wolves were also being pitted against “Kemptville Live” as the hot ticket in town that night!
Unfortunately, and despite all of the pre-game hype, the Wolves were again unable to get the start they wanted and fell behind very early in the match. However, scoring an ice-breaking goal to give the team new-found life was Wolves OT1 call-up and our ‘Player of the Game’, Mike “the Pope” Popiel. It just wasn’t enough. And despite their revival, pugnacity, and efforts, the Wolves were unable to claw their way back from the early game deficit and fell by a score of 6-3 at the game’s end.
Additionally, honourable mentions must go out to Defenders Scotty “too naughty” Gray and Ryan “Struttin” Strotmann for bringing an added element of toughness on the night. It was even said that one of the faithful Kemptville onlookers had mistaken Strotmann as the notorious former footballer, Roy Keane, of Manchester United fame. Well, certainly their playing styles drew similarities on this night. A special thank you goes out to the young quartet of call-up players Mike Popeil, Jon Regali, Mohammad Ahmadi, and Roozbeh Manesh who helped the team compete in this match. It wasn’t the result that was desired, but your contributions certainly went a long way, enabling the team to compete and keep things interesting in the second half and through until the game’s end.

VALIANT EFFORT despite LOSS!
by Team Asst. Manager, Jamie Harris
Game played on July 21, 2024
Well, that wasn’t the result we were hoping for. To the Korean Whitecaps credit, they played to their strength from the outset of the game using their speed to press and getting their first goal on a pass back to our GK that slowed in the heavy grass. And again, minutes later in creating an odd man rush after Eamon had rolled his ankle, allowing them to attack the width of the net for their 2nd goal.
With that early lead, they resorted to parking the bus and incessant fouling to prevent any real quality attack in their end. Both teams had scoring opportunities from dead ball situations late in the 1st half with ours resulting in a header on target, and theirs with a neat little triangle passing move that resulted in 3rd and final goal. The 2nd half we seemed to gain our footing in the game but were unable to break through the bus to get quality chances on net, with the game finishing 3-0 despite a spirited effort.
Want to say thanks to Eamon Kavanagh, Alonso Gartner, and Adam Twarog for coming out and putting their all into the game for us. Wishing you a speedy recovery on the ankle Eamon and the hamstring Adam.
With this loss we still remain top of the table on 19 points after 9 games, but the Whitecaps are now on 18 points with only 8 games played. We both have the Eagles and Redstar to play again this year, so those are likely to be the title-deciding games.
Our ‘Player of the Game’ was defender Justin Mondoux. Well done!
