This week’s games began with a ‘reversal of fortune’!
I think a lot of our MRA team’s disappointment from this week’s game stems from our success in our season opener, last week. Everything dropped for us then, and Tuesday night, it just did not. We played a good first half and seemed to run out of ideas and energy late in the second.
A lot of that has to do with confidence. We played much better last week with the lead….and that aforementioned confidence. We had some chances early on, finish those off, and I’m sure the outcome would have ended differently. Despite the loss, we held our own against a good MR1 team. Three divisions higher than where we should be but a good test for our young squad.
**Remember, if you work harder now, it gets easier later.
Final score was Lynwood 3 Wolves 0
Our Players of the Game were Kevin Pereira and Chris McMahon.
Notes from our OT2 Team Manager – Mark Burger
After a hiatus of two years, the OT2 Wolves enjoyed a successful return to their home pitch with a comfortable 4-0 win over Inter Milan. Despite missing a slew of chances, the Wolves controlled the 1st half, with Michael Owens scoring a goal shortly before half-time. The Wolves continued its dominance in the 2nd half, with a 2nd goal from Owens, and the first of the year from fellow striker, Liam Smithies.
The nicest goal of the game came from distance from Vince Rowley, who also enjoyed a ‘Man of the Match’ performance from central defense, taking care of business in the defensive end.
The clean sheet was shared by Peter Worthing and Chris Stone, with Stone facing more pressure and making some key late saves to preserve the shutout.
The win evens the record of the OT2 Wolves and will hopefully generate some momentum heading into week 3.
Final score was Wolves 4 Inter Milan 0
Notes from our OT4 Team Manager – Mark Jones
Good game, huge effort made by everyone. Kept fighting and never gave up. Down 4-2 at the half, keeping the majority of procession in the second half we came back to tie 5-5. Last couple of minutes of the game another strong attack bringing the ball up from our own end, a great cross was finished by Q to round off his hat-trick.
Goal scores were Q, Scottie Gray, Pete Stewart and Jason Tummy Sticks Leclair. A big shout out to our call ups all whom were instrumental to our success. Chris, Russ, Mitsuo, Marco and Q.
Also like to thank our amazing fans for there support and encouragement from the rowdy OT 2 member’s, you know who you are lol. Look forward to next week.
Final score was Wolves 6 Russell 5
Notes from our OT6 Team Manager – Frank Maiorino
Wolves OT6 won its first game of the season in a 2-1 nail-biter against the Ottawa Bears. The Wolves were bolstered by the arrival of free-agent keeper Troy McFarlane who immediately gained the respect of his teammates with a solid command of the back line and well timed runs to recoup threatening through balls.
Wolves striker, Martin Castillo opened the scoring early in the game with a solid shot into the top corner from a nice feed by John Bergeron. Unfortunately, Martin suffered a knee injury shortly after his goal that will keep him out of the lineup for 4 weeks. Get well soon Martino!
The Wolves held the lead for another 40 min until Luigi Florimo took a great pass from John Bergeron again and shot from the top of the box over the Bear’s keeper giving the good guys a 2-0 lead. The Bears responded quickly with a flukey shot that floated into the top left corner.
The Wolves closed off the game with strong midfield play to lock up the team’s first win.
Final score was Wolves 2 Bears 1
OT6 Player of the Match with the game winner – Luigi Florimo
