WOLVES MR4 score Six Unanswered Goals…what a Comeback!

By: Tony zito, TEAM MANAGER

On a night where, I’m sure, most of us preferred to be sipping a hot beverage while sitting under a blanket, in the comfortable confines of our own homes and safely watching this ridiculous downpour.
Instead our boyz were bravely standing right in the thick of it and all played a hell of a game.

There were many fine, unselfish performances on the pitch!

We were down 2 goals early and I have to reiterate a fact that despite this setback, our team never gives up.

Scoring those 2 quick goals to tie the game before the half were crucial in building our confidence and deflating theirs. I believe they thought this might be a ‘walk in the soggy Park’ but we answered back and then some. When we made it 4-2 on what I like to call ‘dirty goals’, meaning, pouncing on rebounds and their misplays, winning those one on one battles, things we need to do to continue being successful on the pitch.

Scoring 6 straight, unanswered goals should make us feel good about our game BUT we can’t let the foot off just yet. We have to win all our remaining games to have a realistic chance at securing 1st place.

The weather was a factor tonight but the final score was a direct result of our belief in each other.

Thanks to WOLVES OT5’s Bujar Hoti and WOLVES OT2’s, Bertrand Lee for helping us out in this game.

Be proud Boyz!

Goal Scorers:

Carlo – 2
Bujar – 2
Dylan – 1
Ignacio – 1

FUN Fact…Bert taught these boys in high school and with his performance in our game, the teacher never stopped teaching!

Final Result

WOLVES 6 : LYNWOOD 2

MEN OF THE MATCH
Bujar’s 2 goals sparked our comeback and Bert was an impenetrable wall on defense!

No Detours as Wolves OT2 Maintain Top Spot

By: Lloyd Fernandes, TEAM MANAGER

The  Wolves OT2 were away, in action at Gloucester looking for their 5th straight win and aiming to lock down top spot in their division.
Highway closures and traffic congestion did not deter the Wolves from fielding a strong squad for this game.

Liam Smithies got us on the scoresheet with some dogged high pressing which caused the Gloucester keeper to miskick the ball. Liam calmly slotted the ball into the Gloucester’s net much to the opponent’s dismay.

Timon Gareau got the Wolves 2nd goal with some bold running through the Gloucester defence.

Gloucester pulled a goal back from a corner kick and continued pressing hard for the next 5 mins till Kevin Beyer executed a perfect slide tackle on a breakaway that left the Gloucester play in awe of his execution. That slide tackle effectively killed the game for Gloucester as they fell asleep for the next 2 goals and the rest of the game.

Derek Koch got the Wolves 3rd goal with a neat header from a perfect cross from Shezi Aziz, on the wing. This ensures that Derek is holding top spot for the race to the golden boot!

Liam would not be outdone, he peels away from his opponent only to be found with a beautiful ‘defence splitting’ pass from Eamon Kavanagh to calmly score his 2nd of the night and within 1 of Derek for most goals in our division.

Honorable mention was given to Liam Smithies for “doing his job” and potting 2 goals.

Post-Game:
Timon was on hosting duties and ensured that his offering would be talked about by the brethren, whilst they were playing their glow in the dark golf, later that evening.

He smoked up an amazing brisket with a freshly boiled Lanark County corn, washed down with a good selection of ice cold pops.

Top notch Timon! Well done!

The Wolves celebrated Big Panda’s, that would be keeper, Chris Stone’s trip around the sun with a birthday song, cookies and a panda replica desert baked by Kevin Beyer & family.

Happy 40th
 Big Panda! Season

Final Result

WOLVES 4 : GLOUCESTER 1

MAN OF THE MATCH
Eamon Kavanagh, for his determined resilient play in the middle of the field. He was always making himself available for the ball, breaking up opponent plays, putting his body on the line.

WOLVES OT3 Comeback to Earn a Point

By: John Bergeron, TEAM ASSISTANT MANAGER

Last Friday, the Wolves OT3 hosted the Lynwood Hustlers. A game that should’ve been an easily banked three points but was anything but.

The first half featured few chances for either side, however Lynwood got up on us when their striker, who appeared to be offside, put a shot behind our keeper. We nearly equalized minutes later when our own Dan Smith launched a shot from 35 yards out that smacked the crossbar.

We would draw level in the second half when midfielder Marty Habicht stripped Lynwood’s best defender, at the edge of their box, walked in, and fired home the equalizer.

The match would end 1-1.

Editor’s Note: it was ‘Photo Day’ for the WOLVES OT3.
Thanks to all of you for your cooperation and for making it look so good! 🙂

Final Result

WOLVES 1 : LYNWOOD 1

MAN OF THE MATCH
‘Man of the Match’ honours belong to our Keeper, Edson Resendes.

WOLVES OT4 Keep Rollin’ and Make it 2 Wins in a Row!

By: Adam Black, TEAMMATE

The Wolves OT4 last Friday,  took place at Carp River South, under the hot sun, against what proved to be a significantly understaffed and overwhelmed Fusion Saigon United “Bach-Dang-Giang” OT4 squad! With only 9 players, they proved to be no match for a surging Wolves OT4 group. Led by what Jason “Doc” Leclair termed to be a “follicularly challenged” core group of players.

Our Wolves took no mercy and chiseled out an easy, 8-1 victory. The goal scorers were many…
Ada Kennedy with 2, Adam Black, Jason Leclair, David Bryan, Rob Lafleur, Julian Bazinet, and Jeff Quarrington, each with 1 goal.
Luckily, so too was the count of the post-game refreshments.

On this night few would take glory in being named “Man of the Match” but honorable mention must go out to
Dave “Knuckles” Bryan

Oh, and how could we forget the poise and control demonstrated by “Mummy’s favourite soldier” in the backfield,
Marco “the Piper” Campbell.

Next on-deck is the Ottawa Bears, a matchup that this Wolves group eagerly anticipates, as they seek redemption for a loss suffered during the first game of the season.

That 3 wins in a row, well done lads

Go Wolves Go!

Final Result

WOLVES 8 : SAIGON 1

MAN OF THE MATCH
Dave demonstrated the proper “header” technique as he scored in such fine fashion.

WOLVES OT5 Overcome Early Jitters

by: Frank Maiorino, TEAM MANAGER

Our Wolves OT5 beat a pesky Almonte Lynx squad for their 7th win of the season last Friday at Ben Franklin Park.

Our players unexpectedly started on the back foot when the Lynx sent a long ball up the middle of the field to a sprinting forward who controlled the ball, and one timed a beautiful shot over our  keeper,  Dorion Proulx’s  head giving the visitors an early 1-0 lead. The game continued evenly for the next 25 minutes or so until a through ball went over the heads of a couple of Lynx defenders. Wolves forward, Francesco  Maiorino ran onto the ball, controlled it, ran about 15 yards using forward Hasim Hoti as a decoy, and tapping the ball past the Lynx keeper who misjudged it’s trajectory and let it trickle in the net. Game tied 1-1.

The Wolves kept up their strong play when Bujar Hoti tapped a beautiful cross into the net that gave the Wolves a 2-1 lead entering the half.

The half started with the Lynx pushing for the equalizer when a Lynx forward crossed the ball into the box bouncing past 4 Wolves defenders right to a Lynx player at the far post who kicked it into the net. The pesky Lynx tied it at 2. Wolves were undeterred however and kept pressing when leading scorer Qemail Vuniqi controlled the ball at the top of the box and slammed the ball into the top of the net, emphatically making the score 3-2.

The Lynx kept pushing however when a mad scramble in the box resulted in a Lynx player making nice kick on a high bouncing ball that caught the top corner of the Wolves net just by Proulx’s outstretched hands.

Wolves 3 – Pesky Lynx 3.

It was at that point that Hasim Hoti took over scoring a brace with some skillful ball control and precision shooting that demoralized the Lynx and put the game out of reach. The final Wolves goal was a beauty as our defender, Marco Bernabo sent a perfectly placed long ball into the path of  Oscar Arrieta who chipped the ball in full stride over a helpless Lynx keeper making the final score 6-3.

Next up for the Wolves is a very competitive Congo team that gave them a run for their money in game 1 of the season. The team is looking forward to the challenge and continuing their winning ways.

Final Result

WOLVES 6 : ALMONTE 3

Vince Wienecke  – who made a triumphant return to the team with some strong midfield play and
Matthew Crosier – whose well timed defensive play made life very difficult for the Lynx forwards.

Have a great weekend everyone!
